The geometry of power steering setups make it very very hard to turn the wheels(while stopped) if there is no "power", just like pushing brake pedal with "power" brakes lacking the "power" part is very hard to do.

So power steering pump issue would be first guess.

Do you have a locker up front, or is it welded/spooled?

If its welded/spooled, then hydro assist is a must. You will destroy the box in a hurry with out a hydro ram assist, not too mention only be able to turn the wheels if the ujoints are at just the right spot...

ya its spooled for now to i get a locker for it and before i welded it if i was in tight trails the pump would push the fuild out of the cap like it was getting hot so i put a cooler in but sill does it is there an aftermarket pump i can put on that will help with it or is there a hydro assist kit and where can i get one

No good way to add hydro assist to TTB. You should stick with a locker. That way when you are aren't on the skinny pedal you can turn.

No aftermarket pump will solve your issue. You will blow the seals out of the box or snap a sector shaft if you wheel it 100% locked.

Trust me, been there, done it.

Southington Offroad in OH. (Used to be Jeep Skool). I have wheeled with Stillwell stompers and hit Bundy Hill in MI a few times.

ya id like to make a trip up there over the summer after get regeared and at lest lockers so i can turn alot of tight trails

No good way to add hydro assist to TTB.

Maybe if it still has the stock linkage on it...

If you swap to a K-link or a similar steering setup (something you should do anyway if you like good handling and tire wear), you can easily mount the ram to it's centerlink.

And hydro-assist or not, a welded/spooled front still robs you of turning radius. I'd suggest swapping to an actual locker no matter what.

ya im gonna get an e locker here in summer but i just locked the front today and even before id get in ruts or really thick mud it wouldn't turn the wheels i couldn't turn steering wheel like there was no power steer at all

im new to this. I have a 1999 ford ranger 4x4. I replaced the rack and now having issues with the way it is handling and steering. I have checked all bolts and joints. no slop. any help is needed.
