i have an 88 ranger with a 2.9, i tried to start it and i havent been getting any gas. I had this problem once this week and i reset the inertia switch and it started right up. I tried that twice and it still didnt start, also i dnt here both fuel pumps kickin on.

Anybody have any ideas what it may be? bad inertia switch? pumps? relays?

does the relay click just before you turn it all the way over? it should. actually both the fuel pump relay and the ECM power relay should click. they are on the passenger side fender wall near the starter solenoid (of the 2 square relays, the ECM is closest to the cab and next to it is the fuel pump relay). id start there. if thats not it check to make sure fuel is getting to the second pump, and if there, then to the engine. if its not then it might be a clogged fuel filter. lastly i would trace the wires that go to the fuel pump in the tank and make sure there are no breaks or shorts. let us know what you find

im pretty sure i heard the clicking for the relay, both pumps are not kicking on tho, i listened for them everytime i tried starting the truck and there was nothing

ok ill have to check that out, ill yins know wat i come up with...thanks

if i remember right that the low pressure one in the tank is hard to hear but the high pressure one along the inside frame rail under the pedals is louder.

to check the fuel at the engine, i just followed the fuel line from the 2nd pump to the engine and unpluged it put it in a bucket to see if there was any flow when you turn the key. i had a similar problem and after checking all the fuel system i realized it was the ignition

so it actualy was the inertia switch, the following morning after trying to start it, i decided to unplug it completely and crank it over like that. Then i plugged it back up and reset it, cranked it over and it started right up...i got the new one in now and i havent had a problem since but thanks for the help
