So for a little while now my truck has been jerking when I get up over 3k rpm. It happens in all gears. I have an 03 ranger edge v6 3.0l. Has anyone had this problem? I haven't done much to fix it cause I got a hectic schedule (Marines and stuff) but this weekend I'm gonna tube it up and see if I can find the
problem. Can anyone shed some light on what this could be?

Sure sounds like a fuel filter, doesn't it?

I'll try that this weekend. How hard is it to replace? I've looked it up but I'm not sure haha. I can work on helicopters but I'm car dumb

Mine has been doing the same thing and my fuel filter is 6000 miles old roughly. If you can figure it out let me know for sure.

fuel pressure regulator, or the fuel filter. fuel filter on my truck is about under the drivers seat on the frame on the inside. 3 clips takes it off, but be careful because they will probably break. i have no idea where the fuel pressure regulator is on a ranger though

I had this happen to me before, I don't know if it does the same thing as it does for u, but if its the flex fuel 3.0L then it could possibly be the Flex Fuel Composition sensor, the truck would jerk back and forth and i had no idea what it was until one day i was on the highway and it was jerking and got worse and worse until the truck quit and i had to get it towed because it wouldn't start. The MIL came on once in a while but didn't but didn't say that the problem was the sensor, That's just what has happened to me, might not be what you are having.

i got an 02' 3.0 when i punch it, it will jerk, but im sure its the trany with mine cause it does it a few times then takes off like a bat outta hell. lol

My 4.0L did the same thing. It ended up being the fuel filter. It's a cheap and easy fix.

Ended up changing the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and the fuel filter and my truck runs great now. It was probably the fuel filter cause it was pretty nasty. Thanks for you help everyone

Mine only does the jerking thing when its just driving and not heavy on the gas. If I jump on it it takes off. It seems to do it more when it warms up a little. Was your truck doing this?

Ok when the truck is cold the mixture is rich and the timing is retarded from the maximum. Then when the engine warms up the computer allows the mixture to lean and the timing to advance to the maximum when needed.

Ok when warm and not heavy on the gas The mixture is as lean as can be. Also the timing is as advanced to the maximum. Under these conditions the spark plugs are trying to spark under the most pressure.. If they are worn they cause a missing condition.

THEN when you PUNCH it the mixture quickly gets rich and the timing retards. Under this condition the plugs can fire easily so the engine smooths out.

You have described a common WORN OUT tuneup condition.

Got it?

I have started with the basics like was suggested. I cleaned the engine real good. I did an oil change that was long over due. I changed the cap rotor and plugs. I also removed the ac to be ebuilt and converted at a later time. The truck runs much smoother but still has the jerking problem. I changed the filters in both the canister as well. I had an issue in the past with the fpr sticking and spiking off the gage. The fpr has been replaced. I made the mistake of putting in a high pressure pump from pick and pull. I cant get over 24 psi and it drops off to between 0 and two psi. My gas gage has not worked in a while. I ran a KOEO test and got a and 11/10 then a 63 and 33 at continuious. I am going to do the tank pump and and replace the sender from a doner truck. I think that I will do a TPS as well.

TPS did the trick. I ,am still going to pull the bed and do the pump in the tank. My daughter will be in collage 50 miles away in two weeks and my truck need to be dependable.
