Truck cap???

Im not trying to thred Jack here, BUT Im thinking about choppin the top off the B2. Do you think a ranger cap could be cut to make a hard top?

I like having the cap, it gives you a lot more room to put stuff, unless its tall, that is the only time i have a problem with mine. Plus i got it for 100 and it was a great place to put my light bar from my roll bar and my cb antenna. I also think having a lifted truck with the lights, it doesn't have that "old man" truck look as much. It takes about 20 min to take off, but i have a 4x8 trailer, so if i need anything tall, the trailer comes in handy.

Dunno ... I can put my kayak on top, sleep in the back, etc. I'm going to buy one of those inflatable mattresses with the wheel well notches and a tent extension for the topper this summer. Best tent evar.

Where do you get those mattresses? I might go camping this summer, and if you see it rocking, don't come knocking!:icon_surprised:

Not to hijack this thread, but what about replacement parts for a cap. I have a cap that the side window latch is broken on and am more than willing to completely remove the old window, and go bigger and cut fiberglass to install a new window.

I run my cap during the winter for dry storage. I also use it as a pseudo camper in the summer, throw an air mattress in and I'm dry when everyone else is soaked in their tents! My mileage does not change cap on or off but I also have one of the stepped up caps. I do have to clean the rear window quite a bit like mentioned above, but I tend to wash my windows often. It does limit my visibility a little, but my glass is slightly tinted. Only thing that slightly annoys me is that I have a one piece slider on my truck, and my cap has a two piece so there are 5 vertical bars in my rearview. If you are getting a cap, go out on craigslist or your local classifieds and look for a used one, you can save BIG bucks. Mine came with the truck when I bought it. I can move it around myself, but I need 2-3 people to take it on and off. Unfortunately my garage door is not tall enough to get my truck in with the cap on so i can not rig up a pulley setup in the rafters.

I have the same style canopy ,but its a long bed & if done correctly one person can remove the canopy.

Ideally back up to a picnic table with the table's length being oppisite the width of your truck/or saw horse's & thick plywood,& at this time have the tailgate lowered & get as close to the table with your tailgate,unclamp/bolt your canopy, raise the tailgate & having your back leaning against the tailgate, reach into the top back area of the canopy & push toward the picnic table slowly, when approximately half of the canopy is off of the bed set the back section down on the picnic table. open the tailgate & walk into the bed squat down & use your back as the lifting point in the center of the canopy being left to right & start to stand up a little to find out if the canopy is balanced evenly on your back ,now being front to back walk towards & eventually onto the picnic table & then squat down & crawl out the back section of the canopy.

Oh hell yes if you got a friend thats able to help then by all means use the help, but if no help is available at the time then do it my way

They make an inflateable boot that goes between the cap and the cab to keep the crap off both the truck back window and the cap front window. It is also nice if you have a slider on both the truck and the cap. You can leave both open, and have access without water entry.

I wish I could find a cheap cap for my fiancee's 1999 Ranger. She needs more room.

I also wouldn't mind having one for my Super Duty, although it make the fifth wheel hitch and toolbox useless.

They are nice, if you need extra room go for it.

JSPAFFORD- Check out Craigslist.org for a canopy,I got one thats the same style pictured on SHOTOKAN1509's truck ,but different brand & it was for a long bed & the brand is still being made @ $1300 new, I got mine for $100 & it was 3 yrs old & still in new shape ,But the color is not the same as my truck,so about another $100 or less to get it painted to match

BESTTOP Soft-Topper. I have one on my truck and it's basically a convertible cap. When you want it you just pop it up and slide in the windows and when you don't want you just take it down. I admit it looks kind of ugly with the top up but as far as functionality goes... wouldn't trade it for all the hard caps in the world. Bought mine in 06 for 500.00. Install took about 2 hours and it would be easy to remove if necessary.
