ok, well i have had a few posts on here with beginning stages of tonights aftermath,

1. temp gauge started to move around, replaced thermostat, 1st one ive ever done, but my buddy helped me and he has done alot of them, fine for few days, then gauge started to messed up and go crazy, saw on here may have been air in the system but would be ok,

2. then lifted hood, saw, radiator hose to thermostat housing was shriveling up, but the weather warmed up and i ran my truck for awhile one day, and it went back to normal...assumed i fixed it

3. came out of walmart one night, saw antifreeze on the ground, popped radiator cap off and looked in, couldnt see fluid, put some in, but noticed radiator...RUST, looks like pure rust,....put some fluid in and planned to drain it soon as i had time...made sure i put cap back on good

4. noticed a leak but couldnt find it, tonight driving home noticed some steam coming up from under hood, soon as i can i pull over, pop the hood, radiator cap pretty much blew off, with antifreeze spewing out, along with pouring out of reservoir tank....fluid all over the road, motor, and soaked the pad on the underside of the hood:dunno: so im assuming it spewed out pretty dam bad

I know this may all sound weird but im not very mechanically inclined, the most i do is oil changes, some fluid changes, and a little bit of electrical...tomorrow only thing open is a shitty pepboys,....ima take it over there, get new raidator cap, coolant/radiator flush and presppurisezed, and new thermostat put in....

any other opinions on what im doing most likely doing/done wrong or should get done?:icon_confused:

my best guess would be a clog or blockage somewhere, too much pressure in the system...

you said it was happening before the new thermostat but still I would double check to make sure it's the right one/ not backwards. Other than that I would drain it and pull off the hoses and look, also make sure your fan is spinning.

best of luck

Replace the cap and the upper & lower hoses IF they are soft. You will probably want to do more than a basic drain and refill type flush...I'd pull the upper and lower hoses off and run water from your garden hose through the motor, radiator, and heater core until you get all the rusty stuff out.

nope, no water, but ima do a oil change this week to double check...about time for one anyways

mabye im thinking the wrong thing here, but to me im glad i put in a fail safe thermostat, when gets to hot its stays open and so if i didnt have it my truck would have been gone sooner...all though i fixed it just enough to get me back to my college dorm...

draining radiator/flushing everything i can tomorrow along with oil if i have time, if not thatll come wednesday
