Truck bed question

We have a 89 Ford Ranger ext cab and there is an A.R.E cover on Craig'slist we would like to buy. The cover was on a 97 Ranger ext cab. Does anyone know if the bed dimensions have changed over the years or would it fit on our 89?

All you need to know is if the cover is for a short bed or a long bed. Just go to the A.R.E. website and look it up. The cover will work if it IS off an ext/ cab Ranger since you have an ext. cab truck.

On a canopy/tonneau cover web site it shows two different caps/covers sizes for the super cabs
1992 and older
1993 and newer

Not sure how much of a difference there would be, all super cabs have a 6' bed, maybe wider on the second generation.

The first and second gen beds are a tad smaller on the outside dimensions. The insides are th same for all rangers. The cover should fit but will overhang your bedsides by an inch or so. If you can live with that go for it

I should add that the difference in size is width only not length. I have a pic of a 3rd gen with a 1st gen bed if you want to get an idea of the differences

A pic would be great! Thanks! We figured it might be a litttle bit wider. Could live with that I guess or we were thinking of building one out of aluminum.

Ask and ye shall receive. saw this in the pull apart a few years ago. I was impressed that he was able to get one the same color as the truck itself.
