HI im new here first of all. Ive lurked these forums for over a year now.

I just recently have the head gaskets done and about a few day later I was driving and i had a complete loss of power, the Tach instantly went from about 4000 to idle and jumped right back up. then it twitched around a bit. its only done this a few times, but today, its done it alot, I got home and put it in park and the rpms went from idle straight to 3000 rpms and then the truck died. So I started it back up and it did the same thing. I let it sit for a few hours and now it starts and drives fine.

I can figure out what would cause this. I know if it was the TFI, it would stay dead. Coil maybe? TPS? its really weird.

Oh sorry if this is a double post, i couldn't find anything like this.

Fuel pressure regulator? Can you get a fuel pressure gauge to put on it? Some parts stores will have a lend-a-tool program. Essentially you buy the tool, use it, then return for the refund. These stores should also be able to pull any codes stored in the computer. Even if the check engine light isn't on, there could be pending codes stored.
Good luck,

Richard

Hmm I have a code reader and no codes appeared, but the truck did start doing it during diagnostics and the computer put the diagnostics on hold until it idled down.

Will have to pick up a fuel pressure gauge, its something ive needed for awhile now. Ill let you know.

Perhaps something with the EGR system?? Are all of the vacuum lines hooked up? Just an idea..

from the get go ive suspected a vacuum leak, seeing as how the whole top end came off with the head gasket job, and had the heads rebuilt, and the intake plenum and intake manifold cleaned of carbon, i took a can of carb and sprayed in search of a vacuum leak, even around the gaskests. nothing.

But yesterday night i unplugged the battery to reset the computer, I was thinking with all the sensors ans stuff removed and cleaned, it threw off the computer. So i plugged it back in this mourning and filled her up with plus, thinking maybe with the shaved heads, the compression might have been causing misfire. Put about 50 miles on it today and no problem so far. Will see how my luck holds.

Sorry for the bump, I just wanted to let you know that after a computer reset, all issues have disappeared.
