Now I have to see about getting these wires hooked up if they are still good.

Now I have to see about getting these wires hooked up if they are still good.

I just did that to mine last night. Highly recommend.

Looks like the previous owner told his pet ferret to go out and disconnect the wiring. Wow. What do people do to this stuff?

Those wires don’t look very good. FWIW, you may have a brake light wire in the factory harness behind the bumper to tap into for the third brake light. I just recently discovered mine has one after having run a wire up to the cab and tapped into the third brake light circuit there on two Rangers. I’m working on re-doing some wiring for my bed and cap currently

Thanks for the info, I'll check it out

I have a thread about mystery wires in the harness in the one electrical section on here. Also shot some video but I don’t have it edited and up yet, not gonna have time for that done till sometime after this trip. If you need to and I have room when I pack, I can bring the stuff to tap in and hook stuff up with me. I’ll see about a couple pictures today though.

Yes, I’ve discovered having a third brake light wire, trailer brake wires, etc. is pretty common from the mid 90s moving forward. A lot of times you can find a dealer or aftermarket wiring harness to jump those things towards the trailer. Personally, I hate spending 30 or $40 for three dollars worth of wire.

What I have not been able to find is a concise place that has the wiring color codes, locations and charts so you can find it easily. I’ve been able to run it down on a specific vehicle, but it seems to be different from vehicle to vehicle.

About the only thing that is standard in automotive wiring is red for positive battery voltage, black for ground and the colors for standard trailer wiring like brown for lights, yellow for one turn signal, green for the other turn signal, etc. everything else in the vehicle is determined by the manufacturer. So, it is best to get the wiring diagrams for the exact vehicle you’re working on.

At some point… probably somewhere between f350 to f550, white becomes ground. Heady duty truck guys usually go by the theory that the lighter color wire is the ground wire. It bothered me for the longest time after I started working on trucks. Now I just supervise.

Yes, and there are other colors used as grounds in particular circuits. Black with white trace is common. But, those basics I listed get you started. The important thing is; get the diagrams for the vehicle you’re working on. It solves a lot of headaches.

Everyone...

I don't like flip flopping pizza night...

But due to other things going on Saturday evening... pizza night has to go back to Friday night.

I'm sorry if that effects anyone's plans.
Don’t worry, I barely have any of my meals planned out yet anyway 🤫

Try to figure wiring out on a Renault...

So many white wires.

You just need a stick... and a pack of hot dogs.

Maybe some pop tarts...

Jim might even show you how to make his famous "smoked" pop parts.
