TRS Event TRS 2023 Fall Adventure - Land Between The Lakes

If you ever find yourself in the Atlanta area, you need to go to the aquarium. Its massive… they have tanks big enough for whale sharks.
Actually, the Georgia Aquarium has a show on like the animal planet or discovery channel. They do have whale sharks because they are the largest aquarium in the world.

I’m trying to find the pic I took of my daughter in front of the GIANT window into one of the tanks. It looks like a movie screen.

If that happens, my Ranger will mneed a taller snorkel so we can go searching for him.
I’d like to get one of these…

Yeah, here in Indiana it's 5 bucks for state parks, but rivers are no permit needed

PA isn’t that cheap but when is it ever? I think ours is $9 a year but I buy the two year for the canoe and the kayak just so there is less pealing off and applying new stickers. I’d hate to see what the motorized boaters and the paddle boats over a certain size have to pay for registration and so on.

PA isn’t worst state when you consider percentages of what is taxed. But how the taxes are applied and who pays them makes it one of the worst.

Actually, PA is a very tax-friendly state once you retire, as long as you stay away from the cities. If it wasn't for the brutal winters and the politics, I'd consider moving there:

Do Retirees Pay Pennsylvania Income Tax?
Pennsylvania doesn’t tax any traditional types of retirement income. Even other types of income are taxed at a low flat rate, but localities in Pennsylvania can impose local income taxes of their own.

Tax on Taxable Income: Flat rate of 3.07%

  • Social Security: Not taxable
  • Pensions: Not taxable
  • 401(k) and IRA Distributions: Not taxable
  • Groceries are tax-exempt.
  • Prescription drugs are tax-exempt.
  • Diapers and some feminine hygiene products are tax-exempt.

Yeah, the weather and other things are driving me from the state. If I wasn't so short on being eligible for retirement, I would consider moving now. But since I'm anchored here by employment for right now, I'm going to stick it out until retirement. Then, I'll be looking to take the edge off winter but not absolutely bake in the summer. And I want to stay away from the east coast because of the hurricanes. Kentucky or Tennessee are looking pretty good right now.

Tennessee looks like a better option over Kentucky. Florida is just too damn hot in the summer. I'm seriously thinking about moving on next spring.

One thing about TN though, is they have one hell of a sales tax that bleeds you all year - year after year. Highest in the nation.

Use the link I provided and check out the different state tax pictures. I chose FL for the tax picture, I never realized summers here could be this brutal. For what I spend in electric to run the A/C I could have spent in gas to go anywhere else this summer if the A/C didn't take a shit.

But we don't have a state income tax.

I’d rather pay a sales tax than an income tax. It gets charged the same to everyone, assuming there is no cut outs or exemptions for individuals. I imagine nonprofits get an expemption, which doesn’t give me heartburn.

Yeah I live on the TN and KY border. We have 9.25% sales tax here in TN but no state income tax. I can drive 10 mins up the road and buy my groceries in KY which are tax free. But all other non grocery items still have a 6.25% sales tax. I'm not sure how the state income tax thing works or even the "common welth" thing works up there. I do know the average about 20 to 30 cents higher per gallon of gas then TN as well. I'll take my higher sales tax and only give the federal government my income taxes.

While in theory, there is little difference in a State and a Commonwealth, there are differences. PA is a Commonwealth. Some of the things and how they get done are a different but I couldn't point at a specific thing and say, this is a difference and that is a difference. Once you get into politics, State or Commonwealth, there is little that makes logical sense.

But we don't have a state income tax.
I know, that's why I pointed it out. There's no income tax in FL, TX, WY, SD and about 3 other states, but TN has the highest over-the-counter sales tax in the nation. No offense, just pointing it out.

A bunch of this should probably go to the tax thread.

So, everyone getting their final details ironed out in preparation for the LBL trip? I’m actually feeling like I might not get my Ranger ready. I’m going to finish a few details and get my Fun50 listed for sale on Marketplace tomorrow morning. Then it’s time to try to finish the front bumper and headlight/turn signal/ side marker bracketry on the Ranger. I also have some work to finish the trophy for the scavenger hunt.

I just need to check on the whys and wherefores for the kayak. Everything else should be set other than the packing.
