TRS 2021 Fall Off-Road Round-Up

Both are actually better eaters than me. I’m the pickier eater of the group. Have always been a cheese only pizza, worked up to pepperoni as long as it isn’t too spicy. Recently come to love chicken broccoli Alfredo and my new favorite chicken bacon ranch. Especially if the base is bbq sauce. So many levels that blend so well together.

I will have BBQ sauce and some bacon... pick yourself up a rotisserie chicken or a bag of that precooked chicken maybe and your bottle of ranch. We can make your favorite pizza happen.

Translation: "You will eat what I put in front of you and *like* it!"

This should be good practice for the little guy as he gets older and picky about what he eats lol

I thought it was “you don’t have to like it, you just have to eat it.”

I'm even good with 'you just have to -try- it'. Don't fart around about not liking it until you've at least given it a couple of bites. Do that and we can work something out for an alternative.

My parents always said you should try something at least seven times before you decide if you like it or not because you may not like the way it’s been prepared or something.

I think that was a trick, but I eat pretty much anything so I guess it worked.

When I was five or so, my mom made me try a sweet potato/marshmallow casserole thing at Thanksgiving dinner. I don't know what the issue was, but for about ten or so years as a kid into my teenage years, I just couldn't handle sweet potatoes at all (now I love them). Anyway, she made it clear that I needed to eat two bites. After the first one, I gagged and pleaded. She was clear - there was a two bite minimum. I submitted and went for the second bite, then promptly threw up. All over the Thanksgiving dinner table.

The two bite rule became significantly more flexible after that.

Sweet potatoes and marshmallows sounds gross. That’s how you the dabeetus That was an entirely reasonable response.

To this day... I still don't like sweet potato anything. Especially that stuff with the marshmallow on top.

I’ll be packing tonight and leave in the morning. The plan is to be there about 1600-1700. It’s a 7 hour drive per GPS. Reality always takes longer.

Do I need to pack wood for fires? It was never really confirmed.

Does anyone have issues with kilts?

In any case, the plan is to load firewood, if needed, grab my SAR bag and pack some clothes. I need to eat up the freeze dried food and replenish. So, the SAR bag makes it real quick and easy.

What is the plan on beverages prohibited on the Badlands Park?I’m guessing that they are fine in the campground. Of it’s going to be a dry trip, that’s fine too.

I want to get on the road no later than 0900 but if I need to make a quick stop, the 1600-1700 arrival time gives me some fudge room.

EDIT: Beanie will be packed as well. After this trip, it gets passed on to the next newb moderator.

I don't know what time I'm getting on the road at this point. A situation just came up at home that needs to be dealt with before I can pack, and I discovered a broken sway bar link that I need to address before spending 18 hours on the highway. Also need to load Justin's engine for the trip. Definitely coming tomorrow, but maybe not as early as I'd planned...

As discussed, most places are discouraging "imported" firewood, to minimize transportation of bugs and plant diseases. If you want tochance bringing some, that's up to you. Alcohol in the campground should be ok. I would definitely discourage it for drivers in the park.

Almost set up. I'm taking a short break to allow stuff to dry out that was packed wet this morning. Plenty if room for everyone right now. Might try to rope off an area tomorrow.

If only we had a flag...

Maybe we should do a Facebook live video from the campground Saturday evening.

We could do that. I did my very first live feed last night.
