Ok I have a 2002 XLT 4.0 my problem is when I go out and try to start my truck after sitting awhile or first thing in the morning. I have a hard time getting it to start. I put the key when I turn it to start it take a few more seconds than normal for it to start. If I back off and try the to start the 2nd time it starts no problem. It just the first time it wants to take awhile to start. This just started happening after I had my fuel filter changed. Anybody else have this problem. any feed back would be great. Thanks in advance

Fuel leaks -- internal or external -- can cause this.

Check for external fuel leaks; if you can't find any, check the fuel pressure regulator and whereever the check valve is on this truck (sometimes they live with the filter; sometimes in the fuel pump).

Cause and effect leads me to believe your new fuel filter may be leaking.

Try turning the key to Run for 3 seconds, do not crank, repeat 2 or 3x. If your fuel pressure has bled down (from either a bad checkvalve in the fuel pump assembly or the filter leaking), this procedure should prime the pressure back up and when you do crank it over, it'll fire right up.

If that works, I'd try another fuel filter.

I have a similar problem with my 2001 ranger. It is usually a bear to start when cold currently has about 90,000 miles. I tried changing the plugs and fuel filter in hopes of solving the problem but to no avail same problem. Still trying to figure it out myself.
