I have a 1993 Ranger, 3.0, automatic. Lately my truck has been running wierd. Most of the time when I start my truck my rpm's drop really low almost to the point where the motor dies, then they rise again. Sometimes it only does this once and other times it does it repetitively 3 to 4 times. But when it does this the battery meter falls down to 0 when the rpm's drop then returns back to normal when the rpm's raise again, then is fine after the truck stops doing that..

anyone know why this could be???

Have you tried pulling the codes to see if anything comes up? That's always the first step when diagnosing problems like this one.

Check your codes and most likely you are looking at EGR problems wifes 3.0 in escape did same thing it wound up only being an EGR pressure sensor.... Their are like 3 parts tied together that throw out EGR codes... unless you just want to replace all 3 try the pressure switch first. Like 20-30 bucks at autozone with lifetime warranty. It will get worse to the point where the engine dies at stop signs and anytime you go down the road and let off gas. Thats been my experience with similar problem. Hope this helps.

thanks alot. where is that located at? and I checked for vac leaks and there are none.

Not exactly sure on your 3.0 but it was within the same area as the EGR valve on her 3.0 and my haynes manual doesn't cover your year model. maybe you can get one of the real tech guys on her to lend you a hand in that department or one of the parts stores may have a schematic for your engine to help lead you in the right direction. sorry wish i could help more

ya ive read that link and it doesnt tell me anything. thanks alot for your help though! :)
