i have a 97 ranger automatic trouble shifting into reverse it takes like 20 secs every time does any body know whats wrong with my transmission

i have a similar prob but only when its really cold out like winter time if i let it worm up its fine but would love some input on what to look for.

check the fluid level. if its fine, take it to a shop or throw a junkyard trans. in.

with an automatic, everything is a big issue. its only a matter of time before whatever is worn breaks and leaves you stranded. i would fix it before this happends.

IMHO if an automatic is taking it's time going into gear and the fluid level is ok, it's often because you have low pressure because of failing internal seals in the tranny, or a filter that's plugged with clutch material.
I've had some success with Lucas seal conditioner ( it's twice the price of the other stuff like STP etc. but it works better).

Than it breaks even worst when it gives up after pouring an additive. Take it to the Transmission shop and have it inspected by a pro before any bigger damage occurs. Cheers Wicked. I can barely type...
