Trouble Code

I have a 96 Ranger XLT with a 3.0 in it . I got a check engine light a couple of
weeks ago so i hooked up my scanner and it tells me i have a code P0420
and also reads like this.

Catalyst System efficiency below threshold bank 1

The truck runs fine so I'm guessing it's a Emission issue, but exactly what i don't
know. any idea's?

Well the code says it all. The bank 1 catalyst has dropped below a given efficiency threshold and set a code.

Basically the cats are worn out. I won't likely cause any real issues driving it, but the tail pipe emissions will be adversely effected.

OK, Just making sure i got this rite. I need to replace the converter?
