Trim package?

This may be a stupid question, but how do I figure out which trim package my Ranger has?

It's a 1994 extended cab 4x4, 4.0L, manual transmission, manual windows/locks/mirrors, sliding rear window, rear jump seats, carpet, cloth 40/60 seat, push-button 4wd, air conditioning, and chrome bumpers/grill.

The paint/body scheme is gray plastic lower molding, upper is teal with some pinkish/purple factory decal graphics on the doors.

I bought it 4 years ago, and it just turned 200,000 miles last week and I'm needing to do some more equipment replacement and in case some of the suspension parts are different for different trim packages I need to know exactly what I have.

Is there possibly a way to tell from the VIN number? Or would it be in the owner's manual somewhere? I'm the 3rd owner, so the original window sticker is gone and I don't see anything on the stickers on the door/under the hood that mention anything about that.

If anyone can make an educated guess based on the information I listed I'd be grateful.

Thanks

The VIN won't tell you.

It sounds like an XLT or STX. The chrome grille and bumpers came on XLTs. The decals sound like STX decals, but the STX came with argent (gray) bumpers and grille. Bumpers and grilles can be changed easily though.

What does the fender badge say? If it only says "Ranger," you probably have an STX. XLTs came from the factory with fender badges that say "XLT" below "Ranger."

Is there any way you can get pics?

Either way, all 1994 4x4s should use the same suspension parts.

There was an application linked from the ford commercial site a few years ago that allowed you to lookup the build list and options for any vehicle based on vin number.

i used it when i bought my 00 GT i cant find the link in my bookmarks anymore but i originally stumbled across it on mustang forums dot com...

i wish i could help more.. you can also contact ford and they will send you an official build list like the kinds the collector car guys use when they do the restos. i had one of those too when i had the mustang.

i think you have an STX. Arent all XLT's power locks and windows?

Dang....I saw the words "trim package" and I thought it should be in the garage...something about a bikini bottom or thong...

well i guess i learned something today.

yes sir, the wrong topic but I could see the excitement.

My '94 XLT is EXACTLY what you have TSpring3. Mine's 2wd obviously, but everything else is a spot on match to yours.

Someone on here posted a link to a place where you could contact Ford and get a copy of your truck's original build sheet. I may have it saved, but I'm not sure. I'll see what forum searching I can do and try to bring it up. All you have to do is email Ford asking about your truck, give them the vin and your current address and they'll mail it straight out to you. You don't even have to pay for postage (I don't remember paying it if I did...)

Btw, Welcome to The Ranger Station... Nobody else here said it yet.

First off I'd like to thank everyone for their informative and quick responses.

Secondly, I'm an idiot who couldn't see the forest for the trees. I don't know how many times I've been within inches of the "XLT" decal right under the Ranger decal on the front fender and never noticed it.

Puzzle solved, it's an XLT.

Thanks for all your help!

I was gonna say, the cloth seat and carpet and rear jump seats give it away as an XLT.
Cloth seat was optional on XL's but carpet wasn't.
