Trick names for parts at advance

I drive Past AutoZone and Discount Auto to go to Oreilly's. NAPA is out of the question, around here NAPA stands for Never Any Parts Available

The Napa here in my town sucks. Always understaffed and their GM has even told me that their seed stock is way out of whack with what they should have because their DM is an idiot.

Fortunately their main local hub is only 20 min away.

I actually love NAPA, and they almost always have the parts, or sometimes get them in the same day, plus the one I go to has a great machine shop.
No O'Riley here, I like RockAuto but they still charge for shipping when most online sellers are not. Can't beat Amazon for many things.

Carquest was just bought out, the new owner is rather arrogant and who I was dealing with on my connector. If it isn't easy to find he won't dig at all.

O'Reilly's... I think the only reason people are in there is because they can't even find the door to leave. Again no digging, they are not privately owned and seem to hire anyone with a pulse.

Napa has an attitude and their stuff is high so unless I think it should be really easy for them to find I do my own legwork and either force feed the other two part #'s or order from Rockauto/Amazon

Well this is become a can of worms!

it seems it doesn't matter what supplier or Parts Warehouse we go to things vary drastically.

In my area Southeast PA, Advanced is the higher-priced on just about everything, I'm still not very sure about using AutoZone even though Saturday I picked up the rotors for the truck from them,

Advance does tend to be on the high end for price from the chain retailers. There are tricks to getting things cheaper from them. If you sign up for their rewards program, do on-line ordering for in-store pickup and use your rewards coupons you can save a lot of money, especially if you play all the cards right. Like if you have a $400 worth of parts to order, with a 25% up to $50 code, and a pair of $20 coupons you can put it through in two orders of $200 each and save about $80, and get your $20 coupons replaced.

Or walk into the store and ask them to run the purchase under API, and basically get the parts at cost since Advance owns API.

True but I can't even keep up with the emails lol, and it's kind of cute how you get the email after you've been to a store and they used the computer with your name in there,

I have their emails kicked right to the junk bin. Their web site pulls up your coupons automatically, which are the only worthwhile thing the email you. If I have to buy something in store and want to use one I get the number off the program site from my phone.

You are able to use the website coupons when making an in store purchase?

I just run everything thru my work account and pay cash/card instead of charging it. :D

No, if you are signed up with the SpeedPerks program and you sign up an account on the Advance website, rather than checking out as a guest, it will find your speed perks coupons. There is a drop down box on the cart screen where you can pick them.

That's why I mostly do online ordering from them.

Oh okay. Makes sense, I've just never tried using the speed perks rewards in store. Good to know that it works.

Using the Speed Perks coupons in store is just like using any other coupon in a store. You gotta have it with you, then they ring up all your crap and scan the coupon bar code and it takes money off the total.

I keep the sp website bookmarked on my phone so I can just pull them up quick instead of screwing around in my email for an hour, if I have to buy something in the store.

Ill tell ya what, after my most recent experence with o reiley im wipeing large chain stores off my list. Ive already swore off autozone (poor service) and advance (too expensive).

Went in sunday to get U joints for rusty 2.0(they had greaseables for 10 bucks), heres how the convo went....

Counterkid "How can we help you today?"

Me "I need a set of U joints"

Counterkid "Whats the vehicle?"

Me "87 Ranger 2wd, 6 cylinder, 5speed, regular cab long box"

Counterkid *Clicks his cpu around* "Uhh, ranger, thats ford right?"

Me "Yes"

Counterkid "Ok, which do you need? Left or right?

Me "Left or right?, I need front and rear"

Counterkid "My computer says left and right"

Me "Let me see"

Counterkid *turns his cpu around*

Me "Those are axle shaft u joints, i need ones for the driveshaft"

Counterkid *scrolls down* "Front or rear"?

Me "Both"

Counterkid "Which transfer case do you have?"

Me (getting frusterated) "Its 2 wheel drive it doesnt have one"

Counterkid "Oh, so you just need two u joints for the rear driveshaft?"

Me "Yes, its 2wd"

Counterkid *looks puzzled*

Me "Spin the cpu around" *scrolls down* "I need that and that" *pointing*

Counterkid "Uhh. Ok".

15 minutes and much aggravation later i leave with supriseingly, the correct u joints. I swear if your not buying an oil filter or brake pads these people are friggin clueless

If you really want to be entertained, go in and say something like this.

" I need the following parts. They will be installed on a 1993 Ford ranger, 3.0l, 4x4, with a/c. I need brake drums and shoes for a 2001 ranger fx4, air filter for a 2001 explorer 4.0l, coolant temperature switch for a 19xx Mercedes 300se, and radiator fan for a 19xx Volvo station wagon."
