i have a 94 ranger 4x4 4.0 auto. recently the tranny messed up. when u put it in park it acts like its between gears and when u put it in reverse it is just like park( it evens hits the parking pen) netural is like 1st gear, and 1st through overdrive work fine. no slipping, i tryied changeing filter and fluid, took the shifter cable of the side of tranny and moved it manualy and still the same. is this somthing simple or is it f*****.

are you jsut talking on the dash that it is showing the needle is in the wrong place?

no. i called napaand they told me the shifter cable was prob streched. so i took the cable off the tranny compltely and shifted the tranny by had and it was still messed up.

no but about a month ago it started running wierd when it idles. it runs fine but when it idles it bearly runs and it makes a sound like theres a exuast leak but there isnt. u can only here the sound out of the exuast and not in the engine compartment. Ive checked for vacum leaks and couldnt find one. could there be one hidden somewhere that would go to the tranny and that be idle and tranny problem?
