So, i have a 1988 Ford Bronco II Eddie Bauer edition with overdrive. 2wd.
i had just had a new radiator and water pump put on it, and on my way home i had a cash offer on the car, that i rejected, (now almost regretfully)
anyway, i was driving, maybe 45mph when all of a sudden i hear a loud pop and something started making a really bad grinding noise. so, i roll over to the side of the road and shut off the car, i waited, and keyed it back on, well when i did that it sounded like the rear end was making a sort of ticking noise. and the engine would turn over but not start. so about 20 minutes later when the mechanic drives down the road to tow me back to the shop it cranks straight up for him with no ticking in the rear end. but when he went to shift into drive the the trans made an ungodly grinding noise again and wouldnt go into gear. so, i guess my question is, what do you think went wrong? do i need a new trans or can i fix this one?
