I’ve got an 87 Ranger 2.3 diesel 5 speed with a rusted out trans tunnel that I wanted to replace with one out of an 82 with a 2.3 gas and 4 speed. At a glance and with same basic measurements it seems that the tunnels are different and won’t work. I was under the impression that they were all the same. If not which ones would work with my 87?

You should be able to use any cab through 1992. Not sure if cab length is going to make ad ifference, but I don't think it will. No differences for the engines. The only differences were the plates over the transmissions. Manuals and/or manual transfer case had a hole for shifter. Automatic and electric shift 4x4 did not. I'm fairly certain that those plates are interchangable on the tunnel.

I would like to know where you found an 82 though, considering that the first year model was 83. They did start building in the second half of 82, but those were 83 model year trucks.

As a fellow GA member, welcome to the club. I've got an 85 I've got to do some similar patching to.

I meant 83. I’m new to this whole body work thing as I want to start restoring this truck. It has some bad rust in some hard to reach areas and I’m torn between finding s different cab or fixing the one I have. There’s just a lot of rust at both cab corners, drivers side door jam and floor pan as well as both front cab corners. I just would hate to see such a rare truck get thrown in my scrap pile instead of taking the care to fix it and keep as much as I can.

The 84 BR11 plate is smaller . The 87 - 91 are the same size . Not sure on 85 - 86 . But I have a 85 XL I could pull the carpet back and see . Hope this helps .
