I have a 94 ford ranger 3.0 automatic transmission the tail housing started to leak fluid and i didn't notice until the transmission was empty and it start to make a loud bang any time you came to a dead stop i put more fluid in it but it is still doing it i can't figure out what is causing it because it shifts and runs fine can anyone please tell me what can cause this

Welcome to TRS :)

You have an A4LD automatic in a 1994 Ranger
It has 2 solenoids and that's about the only difference from it and the later model 4R55E and 5R55E with 4 solenenoids, used until 2011

So it only makes a noise at idle when "in gear"
What about in Park or Neutral, and in reverse?

And then it just goes away above say 5MPH?

It would have to be in the rotating mass of transmission or torque converter, either could be damaged by the overheating that occurs when fluid is low
I know DUH

Transmissions rotating mass spins at rear wheel speed so when stopped its at 0 RPMs
The torque converter(and pump) spin at engine RPMs so minimum 750RPMs even stopped

So guess would be torque converter, and a total GUESS

My thought would be maybe the torque converter clutch is not disengaging and when coming to a stop it's being violently forced to disengage by the rest of the transmission slowing down below the speed of the engine? :dunno:

I have no way to back up that theory, it just sounded plausible in my head...

Sorry for the late response but I started messing with it more and noticed would not move until the engine rpm was at 2000 and it is doing it in reverse too

That's usually a sign of low fluid pressure, aka impending doom...
