My credo
To be the man, you have to beat the man.
I have a 92 Ranger STX with a 5-spd trans, but I'm thinking about converting it to an automatic trans. Other than needing a auto-trans/bellhousing/shifter, how hard would this be to do and would it cost me big time money wise? Sorry, not really mechanically inclined. Once built a birdhouse that got condemned :dunno:

add radiator, trans fluid lines/cooler, auto computer, wiring in the reverse light/nss, and tc lockup, make sure trans lengths are the same & yokes (?). the shifters are a big pita. it would be some work.

wouldn't need to change radiator, just add an external cooler...

The real problem is that the only realistic option is the A4LD which isn't really reliable longevity wise unless you get a 4.0 spec tranny and put it on a 2.3... the M5OD and A4LD are the same length so the drive shaft would be the same. You would also need the engine computer and wire the tranny to it.
