I am replacing a A4LD (1987 2.9 EFI )with a 4 speed manual (1984 carberated).Everything bolts up but do I need a computer to go from carborated to EFI on transmission convertion? Is there some way to trick the comp to run EFI with manual trans?

I swapped an 84 4 speed into an 87 A4LD.I had both B2's. Everything bolted right in,no problem. Motor ran fine for a while. Bad gas in tank,10 years old. Like tar. To much rust in tank so I changed gas tank. Now it won't start.

Your best bet for computers is to find an 87 to 92 ( I personally recommend the 88+) computer for a 2.9 with manual trans. The transmission doesn't give a flying **** about the fuel delivery system.


As for your new no-start issue. Have you checked the basics?

Do you have fuel and spark? Did you change the filter?



Did you plug the pump back in?
