I have a 1997 Ranger STX 4X4 4.0 with a 5r55e trany it has about 60k miles on rebuild now its slipping at different speeds . Had the pressure solenoid replaced that didn't work so had a remained valve body installed. Still slipping sometimes, the check engine light flashes when it slips but no codes are being stored. Going to stop and get a PCM power relay and see if that helps. Don't know what to do next.

For one thing don’t turn the truck off after the od light flashes before reading the codes. Ones you turn off and turn it back on transmission codes usually reset.

Could also be the scanner. Some don’t pull the tranny codes.

Ditto on the scanner. Some wont read pending codes (which is what you have when it flashes and then goes away) and some don't read transmission codes at all. You are probably getting incorrect gear ratio codes but need to verify that before moving on. Get it scanned with a better scanner and like shelton said, asap after the issue. Pending codes can clear pretty fast so checking them after the fact is pointless.

however I'd seriously have to question what you mean by "rebuild" if whoever did it didn't rebuild the valve body in the first place. putting an old valve body back in a rebuilt transmission is like wiping before you poop... Makes me wonder what else wasn't included or replaced in this "rebuild". For example if the original worn out od drum was re-used you could easily have slips from 1-3 and 5th gear. Same with servos, servo bores, and on and on...

Thanks for the feed back , It's the check engine light that flashes not the od light. Took it to the shop and left it running after the light flashed they put two different scanners on it and nothing .

Get it scanned with a scanner with OEM software and live data stream so you can monitor what is being commanded. May need to hang a pressure gauge also. Stop throwing money at it and guessing.

If check engine light is flashing then that is a misfire.
