I need to service my Transmission, I have a 2002 Ranger with the 3.0 83,000 miles and I think the trans is the 5R55E or the 5R44E. I have the filter, gasket and micro torque wrench and I just need to find some fluid. It uses the Mercon V, I was going to flush the system by disconnecting the Trans cooler and then changing the filter and gasket and refilling. I just need to find a 5 gallon pal of the Mercon V, I have only found the dextron/mercon in the 5 gallon pals.
My question is should I adjust the two bands when I service the trans? The only thing that is weird about this trans is when you go really slow the converter will slip more than any auto I have driven. It is nice since you don't need to ride the brake to go slow up a high or backing up, just fells funny to me. If you nail it the truck takes off just fine, it is a quick little truck off the start.
This is the first auto that I have had in a long time, and my last. I will stick with the hand shakers, just don't know if they will keep making standards in the future. Ford has stopped for some reason
