Hello, My 1988 Ranger 2.9, has a bad A4LD transmission. Question 1: What years will actually fit if I do a replacement. Question 2: From what I have been reading,...is it actually possible to change over to standard shift?, If so, is that better to do than replaceing with automatic? I need to know as soon as possible because my son needs this truck to drive to his first year of college. Thank You for any ideas!

I am doing the swap right now in my BII. So far it has been a pain aquiring all the parts. The M5R1 Mazda manual tranny is better than about any auto. I am also looking at $1200-$1500 in parts. No labor charges. I am also looking for mostly new parts. If you can find a donor truck you'll be easier off. Just my .02. Good luck, MJ
