I just bought a 91 Ranger, 4.0, standard, 4x4 yesterday and wanted to know a few things....

I read the stickies at the top of the section and learned that more than likely my truck has the Mazda M5OD-R1 transmission....

How strong is this transmission.... I'm going to hang a NP205 behind the T-case thats in it... will the trans. be able to hold up to the riggors of offroading or am I going to break it the first time out.....

Thanks in advance for any input...

Oh, something else.... I'm new to the 4.0 engines..... so I'm wondering what transmission bolt patteren it has.... I mean, would I be lucky enough for it to be the small block bolt patteren.....

How are you planning on mounting that t-case? If it'll be divorced (with it's own mount), then it should be OK, but the transmission's extension housing probably won't support the weight of a 205 for very long by itself.

(also, why a 205? There are doublers available for the stock BW1354 case, if that's what you're trying to do)

The 4.0L shares it's bellhousing pattern with the 2.8L and 2.9L V6 engines (sorry, no V8s).

Yeah... It's a divorced T-case, and it will have it's own mount.....I should have been more clear on that... and why a 205... mainly because I have one laying here and I know their pretty much bullet proof.....

I had heard that there were doubler set up's for the 1354, but I've not read up on them yet....

I didn't figure I'd get lucky enough for the 4.0 to share the same bellhousing as the small blocks... be to convenient that way....

Thanks for the reply
