Transmission Question

I have a 1990 ranger with a 2.3 liter engine and a 5 speed manual transmission. My research says that if my 5 speed transmission is built by Mitsubishi, the proper lubricant is 80W gear oil. If it is a Mazda transmission, then I should use Mercon 5.

My question is, how can I tell whether or not my transmission is a Mazda?

It's a Mazda. All 4-cylinder Rangers from 1988 on up got the Mazda unit.

Thanks!

You guys made it ez! I tried to get this information on that "other" ranger forum and all I got was a blast of shite.

Thanks again.

Dave

Same reason why I'm here haha, I don't post much but I'm always Prowlin. Bout to do a 4.0 swap though:) glad you converted lol
