transmission problem please help

ok, i just bought my first ford truck a 2000 ranger xlt 4x4 auto trans..and there is a few things bothering me...when im driving the gear shifts fine after first but when im going from second to third mainly reaching 30mph the rpms goes up to 2/12 to 3k stalls then does a little jerk & goes into gear, then after that all other gears work fine..i even took it on the highway to see how it would hold up in faster speeds and it drove smooth its just that jerking that goes 2nd to 3rd..i took it to my mechanic and when he took out the dip stick for the trans fluid i noticed a burnt smell so we raised the car took off the trans pan and drained the old fluid we then cleaned out the pan and had no metal flakes or any worn signs.. so we replaced the gasket and put a new filter on and added new trans fluid..drove it around the block and still does it?! p.s the O/D light is not flashing when driving...im hoping my trans is int going

also my shift lever is loose wobbles back and forth..any ideas on how to repair that?

is it jerking or slipping. if it slips a little going from 2nd to 3rd you may have a valvebody gasket leak

yea if its just 2nd to 3rd id agree most likley a valve body gasket just did one in my 99 fixed the issue i was having with 2nd to 3rd
