transmission interchange?

what ford transmissions will bolt to a 302. i need a 4x4 transmission and transfecase i want to use a np 205 but i dont know what transmissions will bolt up to it and a 302. also can the bellhousing on a transmission from a 400 be changed to work on a 302. i think it is a c6

transmission on a 400 has the big block pattern, will fit most 351M, all 400, 429 and 460

302 tranny fits most 289, all the 'new' 260, 300 six, 351W and C, and some 351M

early 260's and 289's use a 5 bolt pattern.

FE motors use a round bell pattern.

C6 trannies have integral bell housing that can't be changed
C4 trannies have a removeable bell, and with a little tweaking can be as good as a C6 for most use with less power loss and lower weight.

Nearly any 300 or 302 motor from a 78+ f150 or bronco up to? will have a useable tranny/t-case.

as a sidenote in the mid 70's they offered a smallblock C6 in some of the "muscle cars", changing the tail shaft to a 4X4 adaptor is no big deal
