My dad has a 1996 Ranger with the 3.0L, auto with OD. The transmission is on it's way out, I was able to find a transmission out of a 2000 Ranger with a 3.0L. The question is, are the 2000 and 1996 transmissions the same? Will the 2000 bolt right in ? Thanks.

Yes, but if you have a 2wd truck, then the new transmission must also be out of a 2wd. Likewise, if you have a 4wd truck, then the new trans must be out of another 4wd too.

They are both 2WD. Thanks.

the electronics are different......

So it will not work ?

I thought they were both 4r44e's, and thus, the same? :dntknw: Ah well, sorry for giving you false info. I AM positive however, that you will need a trans from another 3.0 2wd. A trans from any other engine will not work.

According to my transmission parts book from 1995 to 2000 3.0 liter is a 4R44E, from 2001 up its a 5R44E.

Are their any codes stamped onto the bellhousing to ensure that the 2000 is 4R44E ? Would the pan from the 2000 and 2001 be different, would that be a way to ensure that it is indeed a 4R44E?

transmissions are the same, but the electronics in them are not......the transmission wiring harness' are different.....

I was hoping it would work...I was going to get a good deal on it....back to hunting...

Would I be able to swap out computers along with the 2000 transmission to get the correct setup ?
