Transmission fluid flush question

I have a 98 explorer with the 5 speed automatic. I believe the 5r55e.

I'm doing a complete flush on all the fluids. It has 133,000 and Ive hanged the oil with quaker state 10w40 and now I want to switch to synthetic

I wanna run synthetic in the trans. Is this going to hurt anything? I'm doin a complete filter change and flush.

Just wanna get some opinions. I plan on running synthetic in everything.

Synthetic is better than conventional.
Ignorant people spread lies about problems associated with synthetic fluids.
Don't be afraid.
If you want the best performance and longest life, use the best components.
That includes synthetic lubes.

Mercon V is not necessarily synthetic. Most Mercon V fluids I have seen are merely synthetic blends. In fact, I couldn't find any official Ford approved Mercon V that was full synthetic. If I could, I would've used it.

Full synthetics are fine, there's no reason to be afraid of them.

Synthetics are fully compatible with anything you can throw in the transmission, just check the application. In your case, it should be MA5 (Mercon V). MA5 is backwards compatible with MA, but MA is not usable in MA5 applications.

Amsoil makes a full-synthetic "Universal" ATF that, IIRC, meets/exceeds MA/MA5, ATF+4, and Dex III/IV specifications. Check that out if you want.
If I remember right, all Mercon V fluids are at least semi-synthetic (?).
