I'm about to get a 92 Ranger with the "dreaded" A4LD. I know the guy very well and he's the original owner so I know it has been taken care of but I want to prevent any future issues. I'm going to pull the transmission cooler from my friend's old E350 Diesel. I think that'll be a big enough cooler.
However, I'm not sure if I should use an inline filter, how/where to install the cooler, and if I could use an electric fan. Do I want to hook my new cooler down the line from the stock cooler, or should I just bypass the stock cooler altogether? Also if I install the cooler in front of the radiator would I run into any issues with airflow or overheating? Lastly, I know I should put the inline filter down the line from both of the coolers but would I really benefit from the extra filter?
P.S. If I run my A/C at full blast I know the condenser will get super hot. Will that affect my trans cooler enough for concern?
