Transmission control

Let's start: I have a 2000 ext. cab 4.0 ohv 4x4. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to control the trans independently from the engine? I am thinking of doing a 302v8 swap(from an explorer), and I am thinking of doing a carb. Also, what else am I not considering?

What trans are you planning on using?
Please don’t say the stock Ranger trans.

The modifications the fuel system will require for a carb will be far more work than making the stock Explorer EFI work.

There was a thread about this a while back and while I disagree with the concept, there is a stand alone controller from what I understand. But the transmission sucks anyway and the controller cost more than a decent transmission so... why?

Yes, the Ranger automatics won't bolt to, or work with, any V8 engine, so moot point
Nor will the Ranger transfer case be a good idea

If you don't want a computer then get an AOD automatic trans, not AODE, its a 4-speed, 1, 2, 3, OD
AOD came on 5.0l(302) V8s so they are available and even in 4x4 configuration
