my 91 ranger xlt 4 cylinder with an automatic transmision is in need of some help, the trans is shot my brother got one from a pic an pull. he got one out of explorer of the same year cept that one has the starter mounted on the oppisite side, they look exactly the same . my ? is should i swap bellhouseings or jus buy the correct starter and cable?:icon_confused:

Well they're both A4LDs...so just swap bellhousings

anything in particular i should pay attention to while im doing this? thanks for the reply.

i noticed one of the bell housings has a eraser sized chunk of metal missing jus under the front seal, the front seal is sittin on it.

got'em swapped out today and the motor is back in jus gotta put everything back together.

Got yet another question now.. my ranger runs good but im noticing now that my transmision takes a while to shift when u first start it up in the mornings and after it has set for a few hours, any ideas? been lookin on here and found out that it could be the modulator valve or a dirty valve body. does this sound right?

Could be, I'm not an expert when it comes to transmissions by any means though. I would suspect low fluid level first.
