Yes, but you may need to modify the front shaft. The Dana 35 in the 90 has a larger center section so the shaft is shorter.

woah woah woah. wait.

it depends on what transmission is in the 85. one of the available transmissions in that year is 1" shorter than the A4LD/M5OD that will be in the '90, meaning the front driveline is already 1" shorter.

now if i could just remember which trans. is the short one :D you might PM allan about it...hes the one that i learned that little secret from.

If the 85 has an auto, it will be an a4ld, which of course, is the same length as the newer a4ld......

If it has a 5-spd, it will either be a tk5 OR an fm145, which is actually about 2 inches shorter than any manual transmission offered in a '90. (unless some one already swapped in a m5od/fm146)

Typically, the front shaft from a fm145/tk5 is a direct bolt in if you are swapping in a slip yoke t/case in a truck with a d35 with an a4ld/fm146/m50d tranny. I'm in the process of doing the exact same swap on my '91, and going by lengths, the fm145/tk5 front shaft should work.

Of course, if i am wrong, i'm sure someone will chime in....... :)
