i have a 1994 ford ranger 5 speed with the electric t-case and a friend gave me a t-case and shifter out of his 84 with an automatic do i need to find a shifter out of a five speed truck or will the shifter from the automatic work?

I'm in a similar boat - though my t-case shifter came out of a '94 Explorer with auto.

I *think* that the shifters are either for a M5OD or "everything else". I've done my best to put that together over what I've read around here for the last few days. I haven't really seen any pics to allow me to tell them from each other.

Hopefully someone with some expertise on the subject will stumble along here soon.

I am pretty sure the shifter will bolt up, but I believe the linkage "rod" piece will be a different length, might need to cut and weld it to the right length, only one way to find out...:icon_welder:

You will also need a new front drive shaft or to have your current shaft shortened as the 1350 (which your friend gave you) has a longer and different front output than your 1354 (which you currently have).

just updating in case it helps anybody, but I bolted up my t-case shifter yesterday and it worked just fine. As I mentioned before, the guy that sold it to me said it was from an '94 Explorer auto. I dont know if they started using the M5OD shifter for everything or what, all I know is it works.

im doing a swap on my 97 ranger on the 19th from electric to manual as well ill take pics and jot down step by step install tips as well to try to help out. got my finger crost that every thing gose well...:icon_welder:
