hi i am going to be doing a 2wd to 4wd converion on my 1986 ranger and my latest question is about a transfer case i have one in a 1987 ranger parts truck with a a4ld automatic transmission and i was woundering if i can just bolt it up to a manual transmission out of another ranger or the input shaft and mounting bolt pattern of the transfer case from a ranger with a manual transmission is different then a transfer case from a ranger with a automatic transmission , thanks for any info

The transfercases all interchange without issues. You will have bigger problems tho, the front engine crossmember of the frame needs to be swapped with one from a 4x4 truck for this swap to work.

Some have different lengths of levers for the transfer case, which wouldn't be a big deal if some also didn't have removable levers. Shift linkages also vary.

Not knowing what you have and what you might get, it is hard to say what is what you need.

A4LD's have the longer lever (2.5"), and later 85 and newer is removable. If you snag something earlier it may be a different length (1-7/8" laying on my back under a dark BII in a junkyard with a tape measure trying to decide where the center of the pivot is exactly)

It gets confusing :icon_confused:

I muck my way thru putting a A4LD t-case on a C5 here:

I would forget the TTB and go SAS if I was to convert.

thanks for the info , i am debateing between just swaping in a 4wd crossmember or do a sas , currently the truck has no engine or transmission so i dont think its gonna take too much more time to swap it , but if i where to do a sas what parts would i need to do it , thanks
