sometime it seems as though my transfer case isnt engaged, noticed it yesterday on the way to work, slowed down and then hit the gas again and then the slight knocking sound i was hearing went away, and traction improved. i changed the fluid in it this fall so i know its fresh and full. ever hear of this? or maybe its just the auto hubs. my manuals had to be swapped back to autos after breaking a lock ring on one. im thinking of spring for the warn's the next time, but if my T-case is on its way out, i see no reason to spend 200 on hubs that do nothing more than spin the front ring gear. on edit: btw, it is the electric-shift case and the lights light up just fine, i have had it not go into 4L before in the summer when backing trailers, but that was before i changed the fluid and it was a bit low at the time. i checked the oil level at my last oil change and it was still good. with all this snow, its easy to tell if your leaking something!

update: must have been the auto hubs. put new manual hubs back on today, gave 'er hell several times, no problems. i did end up going with the same milemarkers that i had before. with my tire size and usage, stonger hubs would just give something else a excuse to break. dont want to lose a u-joint, T-case chain or axleshaft. ive got 1 spare now. sucks hat the "cheap" hubs are $180 (90 per hub!) but at least if your going to have something go, it might as well be something quick and easy to fix.
