Does anyone know if there is an alternate transfer case that can be swapped out with no modifications? I have an 88 BII and it started making awful sounds in the transfer case area. When the snow stops I'm going to crawl under to see if I can figure it out. If it is the t-case and I need to swap it out, that should be no problem, the local "used parts lot" has 3 for sale for $125. But I see they also have a 98 Explorer case (AWD) for sale for $550. they specified it is 3.73 ratio, which is standard for the BII, so if it fits, could I do this without major problems? I guess a downside would be no low range if i do a swap like this. I'm sure there are other issues I don't know. I'm no mechanic, I just change parts if it looks do-able. If I can't figure it out, I call AAA.
Can I do this, if not, are there other options?
