dumb question

I was trying to figure out how to drain the transfer case on my 98 ranger 4x4
all i can find is one fill plug for a 3/8 ratchet. can someone help me? also what kind of fluid ? atf? thanks

See that big round thing on the backside towards the bottom of the case? Take those 4 bolts out using a 13mm socket, then you'll see the drain.

Yes...ATF.

Be prepared to see black fluid come out. Mine was and I only had about 60k on the clock when I swapped fluids.

thanks a lot... funny you say black fluid, just changed the 5 speed trans fluid, it was black. truck has 130,000 on it. probably the first time it was changed. took just under 3 quarts of atf . i just filled it till it came out of the top hole. the magnet had a lot of stuff on it also.
