Ok, will be starting a v8 swap in my 94 ranger this winter.i've got a 302 out of a 85 f-150.My question is what would be the easyest trans to to install??
A C-4 would be the easiest but there will be no OD.
My next swap will be using a 5 sp.
The problem will be the length of the trans; measure the existing setup from the motor mounts to the end of the trans then measure the F-150 package, if close in measurments it should be a go.
If this is a 2 WD then it will be easy using just about any trans you will just need to get the drive shaft modified or an adapter to bring the engine together with the trans you are using.
I want to go automatic. The one in the ranger is a mazda 5 speed and I know that won't work.May can get the auto trans out of the 85 f-150 that was on engine if he still has it.
Probably the best bet to get things started.
Do some measuring and see what fits.
The 5 sp just has a sound to it that can't be obtained with an auto.
Also will I need the ecm and wiring harness??What would be better to use the efi on the motor and keep fuel pump in tank or go old school manual motor mounted pump and change out the intake with carb?Maybe fuel cell?
I for one think the EFI is the only way to go... if you do the EFI thing, get the Computer and Harness from the original vehicle.
If you can't get the original stuff, look for an 88 to 93 Stang and get the harness and all of the sensors from it.
I used the 2.9 Fuel delivery system in my '88 Ranger and didn't have any fuel issues. If you intend to race this then maybe a new fuel delivery system will need to be designed.
Carbs are good too, think of the look you want, think about the performance you want, overall performance is hard to beat the EFI but horse power wise it is a Carb thing.
Thanks for all you for straighting my thoughts on the 350 swap on the other thread.lol. Will save that one for something else down the road chevy related. Thanks for any help.
Chebby made for Chebby and Ford for Ford, although I did build a Ford Powered Chevy Nova once; funny when the hood was opened.
