none but it is a convertible

going up the ramp the trans shifted into neutral, then drive 2 seconds later- after the revs had gone sky high. might have been converter unlocking. did it 3 times in 15 seconds
ran fine the next day
3rd day-today. same ramp, same neutral/unlock 4 times. 5 minutes later, no 4th (O D) gear, just slips. now OD OFF light is on, and wont go off.
is there a relay or fuse in the cab or under the hood that the OD button on the shifter connects to? or does it go right into the trans?
aamco is going to say that it is my motor that is at fault. they keep saying i have low vaccum in 3rd gear. they wont work on trans unti
" you have motor work done.'
what motor work?
we don't know but you need to have motor work done
monday i will take it to them to start round 10 or 11 of this silly game of "we'll say ANYTHING to avoid having to honor our warrenty"
oh, they will install a new motor for free as attonement for the trannie problems. like i would trust them to change the spark plug in my lawnmower. NOT

Have you checked the fluid?
Warmed up, emergency brake on. I can't remember if it has to be in drive, neutral, or park. It'll say on the dipstick.

Fluid checks are generally done in P or N, engine idling, warmed up to operating temperature.
A 'flare' when the transmission is upshifting can be caused by lack of pressure(pump/leaks/low fluid), or damaged servo/band/clutches.
The vacuum modulator on an A4LD will keep the transmission in a lower gear until vacuum in the intake increases, indicating the engine is not floored. Vacuum in a gas engine will increase when an engine is at idle, or when it is 'cruising'. Vacuum will drop to zero with WOT, or a heavy foot on the gas can cause the vacuum to drop significantly.
Get thee a vacuum gauge, connect to the intake manifold, and paste it to your windshield. Watch what happens when you get to that particular on ramp.
If the problem was engine vacuum, you would have problems everywhere you drove when shifting from XX gear to YY gear.(being on an onramp should make no difference) The trans would flare going straight or going around a corner if it was engine/vacuum related. Test on a low-traffic road going straight ahead. If it doesn't flare, I point again to fluid level being a possible cause, as it will slosh going around a curve(onramp).

is the vaccum modulator external to the trans? if so, what does it look like?
atf level seems good-a tad high if anything. this morning, cold motor, drive does nothing. have to hand shift to 1st, then reverse to get any back-up

!IF! your transmission has a modulator, and it is designed around the A4LD, it will protrude from the right side of the rear of the transmission. It will have a vacuum line connected that leads to the intake manifold. It will be screwed in, and look like a small cylinder with a vacuum barb in the center of the rear.
A vacuum modulator should not affect gear engagement. If you need to shift from gear to gear before getting any engagement, then there is something wrong with your transmission.
If you disconnect and plug the vacuum line to the modulator, the only thing that would happen, to my knowledge & experience, is that the transmission would tend to stay in lower gears longer, and upshift at higher speeds, just what it would do, NORMALLY, if you stepped hard on the gas pedal. Engine funky or not, if you floor the go pedal, the modulator will get ZERO vacuum, just as you'd get with a bad/good engine floored, and stay in lower gear until the governor said SHIFT!! DAMMIT!! I SAID SHIFT! and it would/should go to the upper gear, and if you had a throttle pressure input(lever from the throttle linkage) it would have higher line pressure and shift much stronger/harder so you'd know when it actually shifted, no sleazy slidey ooze from gear to gear, an actual shift. Bang! might be too harsh a term, but a good solid shift. Just later in the rpm scale.

dropped the truck at aamco monday past. since i had heard nothing from them by friday, i went to them. 'oh, we just got the transmission today. it wont be ready until tuesday"
3rd transmission in 16 months. at least this time they did not get me a line of bs about the motor. (might be because i typed to aamco corporate after the second go round.)
