trans fluid

posted this in trans forum with no response...gotta 94 2wd auto-trans..clearly A4LD by trans code on door& and new pan gasket matches up,cant find tag on trans though,just a stamp on tail..site says use DEXII fluid but stick says Mercon oil....how is it the most basic cause so much confusion?

because when the a4ld was introduced dexIII did not exist yet. dex/mercon are interchangable (dex is gm spec, merc is ford spec). dexIII replaced dexII and mercon replaced the earlier type FA.
