Hey guys, 1st post here at TRS. Going to be rebuilding and dropping a trans into my ranger in a few weeks and was playing with the idea of adding a trans cooler. Wondering if anyone has done this and has any input on it. it is a fm146 5speed. current one lost 5th and has a lot of bearing noise in 1-3, hence the rebuild. I don't do much hauling or long drives, but i am averaging 1k miles per month and figure a trans cooler might help the new one last longer. any input is appreciated, even if its a simple "you're an idiot, you don't need a trans cooler."

Well, your not an idiot, but you don't need a trans cooler either.
All automatics do
Very few manuals would benefit from a trans cooler, racing cars do cool trans and differential, but they sustain higher drive train RPMs for long periods.

You would need a 12volt pump, in and out fittings added to the transmission and, of course, the cooler itself

Well, you don't need a trans cooler, but I'm not sure about how smart (reads "worthwhile") rebuilding an FM trans is.
