Tranny swap- V-6 to 4-banger

can you change the bellhousing- my trans both have removable bellhousings? Does the V-6 have a removable bellhousing?

What model transmissions are you referring to? The TK and Mitsubishi transmissions have removable bellhousings, but I'm not sure if you can swap them between the Mitsubishi FM145 and FM146, or between the Mitsubishi and TK. There are also length differences between the TK5/FM145 and the FM146/Mazda.

Instead of making a new thread I might as well toss this in.

I'm guessing it wouldn't be possible for me to swap the transmission from the 4cyl parts truck (M50D) into my V6 truck, right? (A4LD)

The only tranny that was used in a Rangerthat will match up to 4-6 or even the v8 is the C4 . Most of the early V6 rangers came with this tranny, mustangs and pintos had the C4 with a I 4 so a bell is avalable for it , V8 bells are a dime a dozen there is even a C4 with a bell that will bolt up to a 460 . It is to bad that Ford never used the T5 in the ranger this would have made a engine swap alot easyer. I' like you am looking for a Tranny with an over to match my transfer case, to replace my C4 but I haven't found the ideal setup yet.

Koda, the M5OD-R1 from the I4 has the wrong engine -> bell pattern and the bell is integrated (can't swap it). So no, you can't use that trans behind your 3.0L. But you could either sell it, or use it as a core for a junk yard trans. You might just break even on it if you could find the right buyer and a decent deal on a replacement.

Thanks guys. I stopped the whole junkyard transmission search. I've been looking for trucks that run right now, so far I have one that's missing a few body pieces for 200, or one that's complete with 280k for 375. Both are 4cyl and high mileage so I think I'll wait. I was kind of hoping for a wreck or blown engine something to pop up, but beggers can't be choosers.

That's a good idea about the core price though. I'll look into it. Only problem with that is after purchasing the truck I wouldn't have enough money to go get the trans.

the trans in question is out of an 89, 2wd- so it should be a fm 132-- from what is postedin the tech library- it has a removable bellhousing. so will my bellhousing bolt up to the trans and make this swap possible?

the mitsu [fm132 ect.] trans never came behind the 4 cyl so there's no bell for it

but i can take the bell off of my tranny-- will it match up to the 132?

Have i stumped the entire rangerstation?

Can anyone answer this question--- will my bell from a 4cyl trans bolt to a trans from a v6? Both trans have removable bells

Can you put all the info in one place? I'm still unclear on some of the details. You have an FM132 from behind a 2.9, which should have the same removable bellhousing as an FM146 (but not necessarily the FM145, AllanD could probably answer that). What is the other transmission?

I HAVE-- Tk4 and a Tk 5 from a 4cyl. Both have removable bells. WILL one of these bells match up to a trans from a v6 --Fm132? ..... That is the question that has not yet been answered. That is all the info of both trans and the engines they have came from.
