Ive got a 98 ext. cab. 4.0 manual tranny. Its a pita to get into Any gear at a stop. Especially in the mornings, going to work, and i have to stop at a stop light. When it turns green i have to try and get it into gear, and sometimes i can't do it quick enough and everyone starts honking at me. I usually wound have to turn the truck off, put it in gear turn it on and go. P.I.T.A! When the engine warms up, its fine. Shifts like a hot knife in butter.
I took it to the shop sometime last year, and specifically told the guy to change the slave cylinder, throwout bearing, and clutch if it needed it. So he takes it all apart, greases throwout bearing, changed clutch fluid and tranny oil, and puts it back together. He told me everything looked fine, clutch was 'like new'. I knew the throwout bearing was bad, cuz everytime its cold outside, it squeals like hell.
I was sure the slave cylinder was bad, cuz of the shifting problems. And all he does is change fluids!?
My throwout bearing still squeals like crazy. And its still hard to shift.
I will be taking it all apart myself this time and fixing it, so my question is, what exactly should i replace? Is there anything other than the slave cylinder that causes the hard shifting?
TIA!
