as you can see we didnt feel like taking off the trans case or the driveshaft so it came out as one

either the tc went out or the tranny pump needs replaced. i had no gears. so yea here i am..

misewell do a full rebuild on her, friggin a4lds

If it were even remotely feasible, I'd dump that A4LD and get an M5OD.

After spending $$$$ on an A4LD in my old BII, only to have it lunch itself within 20k, I switched over to M5OD.

Best decision I ever made on that truck. And it wasn't difficult to do.

is that tranny pump what makes it leek tranny fluid out of the bell housing?

yeah i know i need the seal for sure but u have to rebuild the pump while ur in there right?

I would take that A4LD and throw it as far as I fawking can (about 7 feet lol :D) and get a M5OD.

M5ODs are found in Rangers and Explorers. They are also a manual transmission so keep in mind what else you need to get when you're looking for one.

Sucks to hear about your A4LD, man. I'm glad I've got two good spares. Is it just me or does it seem like the quality of rebuilt autos is seriously going downhill, and the cost to fix them is ridiculously high? I mean I know what it takes to rebuild one, but damn...you'd think that even a team of untrained monkeys would get one right once in a while.

It really just depends on your own experience with them. Mine has not been great. It "loses" overdrive occasionally and slips really bad if you're in that gear. Then it will come back and work perfectly at random times.

I am just not a fan of automatics. After watching the one in my Nova grenade at 122k after being babied for 20 years and then my A4LD acting up at 80k I just don't want to deal with them anymore.

why are all a4ld crappy trannys ?

They're not that crappy. It's just when people get them rebuilt improperly and they crap out within 30k miles, they for some reason like to blame the transmission instead of the rebuilder, who obviously screwed something up. People also don't maintain them and never change the fluid, which also leads to premature failure. I have 143k trouble-free miles on my A4LD and it still shifts perfectly.

they just can't take any abuse. Who wants a tranny that you have to baby all the time?
