Ok. I have an a4ld that keeps breaking flexplates. bushing to crank is good and had put a new torque converter in when i replaced the flexplate 12000. miles ago. Also the aluminum shim that goes between the block and the tranny was missing i replaced that this time around. aany ideas and or sugestions would be apreciated.

the aluminum shim would do it.

It's also possible to have a warped bellhousing, so that the axis of the crankshaft doesn't line up with the axis of the torque converter, leaving the flexplate to "flex" to make up the difference. The metal will fatigue until the center part that bolts to the crankshaft breaks completely out of the outer part of the plate.

This is kindof unlikely, though, unless the transmission has taken an impact. What happened to me was a C6 had been dropped and the bellhousing broke, and the previous owner took it to a shop and had it welded back together. It went through 4 flexplates in15000 miles, the 4th of which was during my ownership.
