Tranny Help

I just bought older 92 or 93 ranger XLT ext cab 4x4 with with bad automatic tranny, what year tranny will bolt right in this truck other than the same year ? Dont know for sure yet what is the matter with tranny that is in it, Is there some things i could check first ? also it has a 4.0 for motor and does the tranny have to be out of 4.0 would a 3.0 work ? I think I know wear there is a 95 or 96 with 4.0 would this be to new ? One guy mention about swaping or maybe testing with pressure kit the value body, I can do the work but not sure wear the value body is need help there also, thanks again for any and all help.

Ya I did check wear I first posted, and it was not posted in the right spot right ?? what are you telling me here ? If you cant be of better help than that i can go on to other Ford forums, sorry about my mistake.

I am simply telling you that you had an answer to your question.......calm down! Obviously others seen it and answered your question and mods seen it and didn't feel the need to move it to the transmission section of the boards. Cause it had been answered already. You are at the best place on the internet for the question that you have asked.

OK....here you go

A 3.0 trans won't work as the bell housing are different between the transmissions. You will need to find an A4LD out of a same year ranger or explorer with the 4.0. I wouldn't go past a 91 model year. 95's and newer started a completely computer controlled transmission so they won't work.

Pull the pan and check it from there. If there is alot of sediment or the transmission fluid is burnt then you probably have a junk trans. It could simply be that the filter has fallen into the bottom of the pan.

You never did say what it was or wasn't doing.

Ok thanks, not even 100% sure on year will know this morning as I"m going to pay the guy for it, I do know all he told me and he is older gentle men that it does nothing said he got stuck and thats all he has said. I was just try to get a head start on getting stuff to either check out first or get another tranny lined up, will thanks for your help.

Well went and looked on the door says 92 date of manufacture, but I know its the new body style of the 93, starts right up put it in gear and does nothing at all no noises or anything even tryed reverse same, will get it home and i guess pull the pan one day this week and see what it looks like.
