What would cause transmission fluid to get up in the vacumn distribution block?

This is a 1992 4.0L with an A4LD. I have caps on all the nipples except for the PCV, brake booster and the one in the photo going over across the intake. Where does that one go to?

Granted I'm only really familiar with the 3.0, but wouldn't at least one line go to the vacuum solenoid for the EGR? On my motor, there's a line that goes across/behind the intake manifold to the EGR solenoid, and then another line from that to the EGR valve itself. I don't know what lines you have pulled, but might not be a bad idea to check your Haynes/Chilton manual to see what vacuum lines might be missing.

The vacuum modulator on the trans has a ruptured diaphragm. I am kinda surprised you don't have another thread somewhere to the effect of "Help, my trans is stuck in second gear".

It is probably just a small hole in the modulator on the tranny normally by the cat. Be careful when pulling the modulator there is a pin that goes into the throttle valve in the tranny, it should come out with the modulator. If the modulator you get is adjustable you screw in CW to slow down the upshift and out CCW to make the upshift faster. rule of thumb you want the 2nd to 3rd upshift at around 35mph at half throttle. Turn it 1/2 turn at a time. Your gonna want to replace the vacuum hose also the oil will break it down.

So the line that crosses over the intake must be the one that goes down to the modulator. I do about 70 on the Hwy and the engine does not seem to be screaming or anything. I don't have a tach but like I said it does not seem to be revving excessively. I'll pull the hose off the modulator and see if there is fluid in there. Thanks for the help people.
